In the future, work will be radically different. If we look at the current evolution of organizations, we see a “Millennial” model emerging: these organizations are flat, digital, mobile, data-driven and are arguably an improvement on the typical 20th century organization, an improvement on the old way to work. Collective intelligence is enabled by technology, but in the future we will see collective intelligence augmented by cognitive computing: machine learning algorithms and artificial intelligence will extend our mental and social abilities in ways we can barely imagine. In a digital world, the barrier between the “natural” and the “artificial” will be more porous. On the one hand, AI-powered collaborations systems can reduce our cognitive load by simplifying the work environment and streamlining decision-making; on the other hand, algorithms can enhance our precision and accuracy since they don’t suffer form limitations inherent to human brains (fatigue, biases, etc.).
